In 2025, T&I Credit Union and Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union intend to move forward with a merger. Our two credit unions are aligned in our commitment to support members and our local southeastern Michigan communities.
We will continue to keep this webpage updated as new information is available. The following Frequently Asked Questions will provide answers to common questions relating to the merger. As always, we are here for you. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have other questions.
Why merge?
Keeping true to our commitment to serving you has been increasingly difficult as new and upgraded technology and services outpace the resources we have as a credit union of our size. We cannot continue to compete with larger financial institutions due to the rising costs of technology and regulatory compliance.
MSGCU is the 6th largest credit union in Michigan, has had an average 97% member satisfaction rating for 20 years, and anyone who lives, works or worships in our state can join. The two credit unions share core values including the same 70-year commitment to serving our local communities and a dedication to member service excellence. This merger provides T&I CU the ability to offer you:
More products and services, including innovative digital tools and services
A growing branch network spanning Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, and Washtenaw counties. In addition to the branch and team members that will remain here in Clawson, you will have future access to MSGCU’s branch network (currently 22 branches, plus a new one opening this year in Rochester Hills)
Competitive rates and low fees
For more information, visit msgcu.org or view the press release.
What does the merger process look like?
As a credit union member, you will vote on whether the merger is approved or not. Once the membership vote is confirmed, work begins to merge all the operations of T&I Credit Union into MSGCU. T&I Credit Union and MSGCU operate on different technical systems, and those need to be combined so that your information will be available in MSGCU systems moving forward. Our goal is to make the transition easy for you, so it will take several months to complete the work and verify everything is ready. We anticipate this to be complete in late 2025 or early 2026. We will keep you well informed on how to access your accounts and any new services prior to any changes taking place.
Until we notify you that the systems are combined, please keep using the same logins, debit and credit cards, and checks. The phone number and branch that you currently use will be the same, too.
Who can vote?
Any T&I CU member over 18 can vote and is encouraged to do so. Each member gets one vote, regardless of how many services you use or how many accounts you have with the credit union.
How do I vote?
A Notice of Special Meeting has been mailed to your home, and a reminder mailing will be sent closer to the meeting date. You are welcome to attend the meeting on March 18 at 5 p.m. at T&I Credit Union (600 N. Main St., Clawson, MI, 48017) to vote in person. You may also mail your ballot to Doeren Mayhew at 305 West Big Beaver Road, Suite 200, Troy, MI 48084. Any mailed votes must be received by March 14, 2025, to be counted.
Can I drop off a ballot at the branch?
We are using a third party to handle the vote, so the branch cannot accept ballots. A postage-paid return envelope has been included with your ballot so you can conveniently drop it in any mailbox if you cannot attend the Special Meeting on March 18.
Will the Clawson branch remain?
Yes, the branch and team members will remain. The Clawson location will provide more access for MSGCU’s current members and the communities they serve. And as an added benefit, once we are on the same systems as MSGCU (later this year or early 2026), T&I CU members will have access to MSGCU’s 22-and-growing branch network, as well as 30,000 fee-free ATMs.
Will team members remain with MSGCU?
Yes, T&I team members will join the MSGCU team.
I am not affiliated with schools or government. Will I be able to keep my membership?
Absolutely! After the merger, all T&I Credit Union members will become MSGCU members and have access to all their products, services and locations (once the technical systems are combined). While schools and government are part of MSGCU’s history and in the name, anyone who lives, works, or worships in Michigan can join the credit union.
Should I become a member of MSGCU right now?
This is not necessary as all accounts and services will transition automatically when the technical systems are combined. Please continue using the same logins, payment methods, debit and credit cards, routing number, and checks. We will keep you well informed of any changes prior to them taking place.
How does MSGCU support the local community?
Like T&I CU, MSGCU lives the credit union philosophy of people helping people. They give back to our communities in the ways of scholarships, grants, donations, volunteerism, free financial education and more. Last year, they provided nearly $300,000 in community support – check out their year in review.
What types of banking products and services does MSGCU offer?
MSGCU offers competitive rates and an array of products and services to make banking convenient.
In addition to our mortgage, home equity, and auto loans, MSGCU offers traditional savings and checking accounts, CDs, VISA credit and debit cards, youth accounts, loans for teachers and first responders, and more.
Members will also benefit from MSGCU’s digital services including video banking, online banking, bill pay services, credit monitoring with free credit reports, and a highly rated mobile app. MSGCU has a low reliance on fees and provides up to two-day early access of payroll direct deposits, provided the funds are available from the member’s employer.
Will I need to use MSGCU’s routing number?
For now, T&I CU’s routing number will not change and you should continue to use it. Until T&I CU and MSGCU systems are fully combined, which will be late 2025 or early 2026, continue using the same logins, debit and credit cards, and checks. Any direct deposits you have set up now (e.g. payroll or Social Security) will not need to change right now, so please do not make any changes before the systems are combined. We will keep you well informed of any changes prior to them taking place.
What will happen to loans or deposits currently at T&I CU?
When the merger is finalized in April, you won’t need to do anything differently at first. Rates you have on current fixed rate loans or deposits will remain.

The T&I CU team will continue to service you in Clawson for any products and services you have with us, so please continue using the same logins, payment methods, debit and credit cards, and checks.
